Tybee's Own "Betsy Ross"

One might think we were back in George Washington's days when you look at the picture.  Although the scene is very similar, the two women are entirely different, Annette Bergman is our modern day "Betsy Ross."  Annette has sewn Tybee's new City Flag.

Annette has a great love for Tybee and has also written a book, "Return to Tybee", that she has worked on for ten years.  Annette says in the past when she was troubled she would come to Tybee and walk on the beach and feel close to God.  Tybee has always been a special place to Annette and she would like others to share her feelings with others.

Frankie Soloman, who works for the City of Tybee in the Recreation Department,  designed the flag.  Frankie had the idea many years ago and until just recently it was only a dream.

The flag has seven(7) stripes and the represent the seven (7) flags that have flown over Tybee. (American, Georgia, Confederate, English, Pirate, Spanish and French).  The Blue  represents "tranquility on Tybee."

Annette and Frankie presented the flag to Mayor Hosti and Council at the March City Council meeting. The flag was voted on and adopted as Tybee's official flag.
